Over time, this commercial calling led them to settle in the urban centers of northern Sudan, where they consolidated their presence as traders. This centuries long trajectory, marked by constant movement between peoples and markets, explains why trade remains at the center of Awlad Hassan life to this day.

The Awlad Hassan live mainly from trade, working as successful traders in the cities of northern Sudan. They are deeply involved in urban commercial activities, from markets to the transport of goods, holding a prominent place in the economic life of the localities where they have settled over time.

The prestige gained as successful businessmen reinforces, generation after generation, the people’s identity as established traders in Sudanese cities.

On the spiritual front, the people lack any known contact with followers of Jesus in their own community, leaving them without a living reference to the gospel in their language and culture.
